Statement of Intent - P.E

‘Hawkchurch Primary aims to foster a love for physical activity, promote health and well-being and develop essential movement skills.’

Through a varied curriculum, we aim to inspire confidence, teamwork and resilience in our children.  Whether it’s swimming, athletics, dance or team sports, we encourage active participation and a positive attitude toward fitness.

Our Intent

At Hawkchurch Primary, our PE curriculum aims to foster a lifelong love for physical activity, promote health and well-being, and develop fundamental movement skills. Through the Twinkl Move scheme of work, we provide engaging lessons that cater to all abilities, encourage teamwork, and celebrate individual progress. Our curriculum emphasizes a balanced mix of indoor and outdoor activities, including gymnastics, ball games, and fitness exercises. By participating in PE, our children build confidence, resilience and a positive attitude towards an active lifestyle.

Our Implementation

We deliver our PE curriculum using the Twinkl Move resources and scheme of learning.  This delivers the PE National Curriculum through a progressive approach.  The Twinkl Move scheme ensures that children have a varied and well mapped out PE curriculum.  It provides opportunities for progression across the full breadth of the curriculum including indoor and outdoor opportunities.   It is our intention to develop a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and PE in all children.  We aim to help ensure a positive and healthy physical and mental outlook in the future and help develop essential skills like leadership and teamwork.  See full coverage on our website.

Our Impact

Children leave each year with the knowledge and skills required to enable them to access and apply to subsequent learning.  Children will have experienced a range of sports and will be able to demonstrate different skills and apply them to a range of sports.   Children will be able to make links to previous learning and understand the relevance of these connections.  Children will understand the key concepts of each topic.
